Catching up with Motoholic Works

If you don't live under a rock and are on some social media this one account (Motoholic Works) has been popping up now and again with some brilliant Moto inspired illustrations and art. The first few times I saw there stuff I honestly attributed it to the many talented artists from other parts of the world. Until I started seeing stuff with Indian inspiration and that peaked my curiosity. So I send out a few messages and emails to figure out who is behind all this excellent work and this is what we got.

Motoholic Works is the brain child of Nidhi Agarwal and Kallol Mohanty. Both of them are motorcycle designers, and have worked with various International (BMW and Kawasaki to name a few) and Indian motorcycle brands and are currently working with Yamaha Motors, Japan. They work with various mediums ranging from water colour or black ink to digital art, from illustrations to concept art.

The idea behind Motoholic Works was to create a place where they could bring art, design and motorcycles together. "Its about exploring motorcycle culture around the world and bring more awareness among the bikers through art. For this we are continuously coming up with various series. Our first series was 'The Ultimate Bucket List for Bikers', in which we explored various Moto-sports and rallies around the world." says Nidhi. Here is another one titled 'Life Behind Bars'.

"We are constantly trying to come up with original and creative content which also has some informative value. This is just the beginning and you can expect a lot more from our side in future." says Nidhi.

We at Helmet Stories love your stuff and cant wait to see what else you guys have up your sleeves.

Their ongoing series is a fun way to encourage more people to wear helmet while riding. Very awesome stuff.
The idea behind the Kawasaki project was to develop new face for ZX10R, for future,  keeping in mind the Kawasaki racing DNA. Done in collaboration with with Kawasaki, Japan

BMW has been always looking into future scenarios to develop new advanced motorcycles, thus this project is a vision of future of touring in next 100 years. Done in collaboration with BMW Motorrad

Royal Enfield Cannon by Glynn Kerr

Glynn Kerr has been described as "one of the world's leading motorcycle designers"
British-born Glynn Kerr has specialized in motorcycle design for over a quarter of a century. A graduate of Coventry University's Transport Design course, he worked briefly for TVR Sports Cars in the UK before moving to Munich to join BMW as an exterior designer in 1982. Two years later, he transferred to the motorcycle division, since when he has worked exclusively with bikes.

From 1987-90 he was Chief Designer with Amsterdam-based Global Design (now GK Design Europe), the styling studio for Yamaha's European operations. Here, he penned such models the TDM 850 and TDR 125, while contributing to projects as varied as the GTS, Superténéré, XT600 and BW's scooter.

As an independent consultant, he has since worked with a large majority of the world's top motorcycle manufacturers, including Ducati, Honda, Triumph, Aprilia, Harley-Davidson, Kymco, Voxan and Kawasaki. For two decades, he has also been senior consultant to Bajaj in India, helping the company transform the market for smaller-capacity domestic models such as the highly successful Pulsar. As well as commissions from the major producers, Glynn has worked with smaller enterprises and start-up companies, creating the Midual Roadster, the Boxer 654, VB1 & B2, Voxan Scrambler, and more recently, the American-built Fischer MRX.

Glynn started this project speculating the possible results of the Polaris-Eicher tie-up, and the merging of technologies between Victory/Indian and Royal Enfield. One result could be a new series of Enfield Vee-twins, reminiscent of the Carberry-Enfields (and perhaps even the Vincent) what he calls the Royal Enfield Cannon.

Truth be told Glynn we would love a Royal Enfield Cannon 1000 scrambler in the Helmet Stories garages actually maybe two so there will be no fighting on who gets to ride it.

Adieu Thailand

As I sit in Suvarnabhumi Airport waiting for my flight back to New Delhi I look back at the one week the Helmet Stories crew spend riding around Thailand. From riding out of the madness of Bangkok to marvelling at the temples of Ayutthaya to Khao Yai where we rode on some of the best stretches of Tarmac ever. It's been a great week and we shall soon be back.

Trading in

Trading in our bikes for the local form of transportation maybe a bit more fuel efficient i should think.

Directions

Stopped at a 7eleven for directions but the language is making it hard to communicate. Someone drew me a map but apparently I am 80km from Ayutthaya .

Where am I

I have not seen any bike from the crew for a long time now. I am lost let the adventure begin

Morning Bangkok

It's a time to ride.

Ready to ride

I am flying out to meet up with Harsh in Bangkok from Delhi since I was in Chandigarh holidaying. His flight should have left by now but I just got through security and Immigration. Now I am sitting and waiting for my flight to be called with my coffee reading an article on my ride to Uttrakhand published in Xbhp magazine this month.
I think they just called my flight. So keep watching this space for more on our Thai adventure.

Where are you going now? Where will you be tomorrow?

The nice chaps at Tourism Authority of Thailand want Vir and me to promote their wonderful country as a motorcycling destination so we promptly said yes to this concluding ride of 2012.
We've been to Thailand before, shopped like crazy in Bangkok, lazed on many of sun drenched beaches on their many 'Kohs', gorged on street food fit for kings, partied till the wee hours at Khao San Street... But never before have we ridden motorcycles with any kind of purpose there.
What better then to go for a 1000-km ride over a week to catch a glimpse of the 'other' Thailand? For our first time we'll keep to Central Thailand looping around Bangkok in a wide circle. Once we get our motorcycling 'legs' in Thailand, perhaps we will do a tour in the North near Chiang Rai, something that has been on our to-do list for a while.
So come back, check the blog for our most excellent adventure in Thailand for tomorrow, it's a time to ride...
